To reduce its carbon footprint, the company says the console is optimized to perform updates and downloads while using renewable energy the most. Similar features were also available for Windows 11 updates last year. Once the console is plugged in, connected to the internet and has access to regional carbon intensity data, it will be directly carbon sensitive.
In this way, Xboxes will set game, application and operating system updates to certain times when carbon emissions are low. Note that the optimizations are only in shutdown mode. So it is not valid in sleep.
Also, the ‘shutdown’ mode on Xbox will be updated to ‘shutdown (energy saving)’.
