Apple released iOS 15.6.1 for iPhones and 12.5.1 for Macs on Wednesday. Updates do not bring new features or major changes. In addition to the urgently released software updates that close the critical vulnerability in Safari, an update has been released for Apple Watch 3 users.
Apple Watch problems and solution
According to the release notes, a bug that caused the Apple Watch 3 to restart unexpectedly was fixed with the watchOS 8.7.1 update.
The watchOS 8.7.1 update can only be installed on Apple Watch Series 3. This update does not appear for Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models. According to the Apple Security Updates page, watchOS 8.7.1 does not bring any changes other than fixing the bug affecting Apple Watch Series 3 users.
Emergency security update released for iPhone and Mac
With the iOS 15.6.1 and macOS Monterey 12.5.1 update, Apple patched a vulnerability that allowed third-party apps to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Another vulnerability in Safari’s web engine, WebKit, was also fixed with the update. These vulnerabilities affect both iPhone and Mac users.
