Apple has finally released the iOS 17.2 update. As part of the update, some advanced camera features introduced at the iPhone 15 launch were also introduced. iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will now have spatial video recording support.
New video recording feature in iPhone 15 series
With the release of iOS 17.2, the iPhone 15 Pro series will feature spatial video. Thanks to this support, iPhones will switch to a new format that captures 3D depth information. Thanks to the feature, both wide and ultra-wide cameras will be used at the same time.
Thanks to spatial video, it will be possible to combine the wide field of view of the ultra-wide camera in a single video. You can share these videos on applications such as WhatsApp and watch them like standard 2D videos. However, the captured area width will expand considerably.
Apple stated that spatial videos will “come to life” in Vision Pro. It will be possible to watch these videos in their real form with mixed reality glasses. This will allow users to enjoy the images they take with their iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max devices in 3D.
Apple Senior Vice President Greg Joswiak stated that the new format will have a “magical” effect. He also stated that it will offer the best video quality for any smartphone so far. Joswiak said that this feature will allow users to capture “special moments in their truest form.”
The spatial video format will be shot at 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second with HEVC compression to keep file sizes small. iPhone 15 Pro users can start testing this feature by installing the iOS 17.2 update.
