Uniswap Blacklists 253 Crypto Addresses

Decentralized exchange UniSwap has blacklisted 253 cryptocurrencies after four months of work with blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs.

Uniswap has revealed for the first time data on the blacklisting of the wallet. He explained that the blacklisted addresses are mostly linked to stolen funds or because they use transaction mixing services such as Tornado Cash, which has been recently sanctioned by the US Treasury.

Banteg Reaches Uniswap’s Blacklist Data on GitHub

The data was published on GitHub by Uniswap software engineer Jordan Frankfurt, according to Yearn Finance core developer Banteg, who posted the data in a thread of tweets and on GitHub.

Uniswap had partnered with TRM Labs in April. The moment a user started transacting on the Uniswap website, the wallet address was sent to TRM Labs. TRM Labs also assigns a level of risk based on the user’s actions. It is up to Uniswap to decide which risk levels are appropriate to continue trading.

According to Frankfurt’s comments on GitHub, Uniswap initially indirectly blocked addresses it deemed suspicious. Now it only blocks addresses that have been confirmed as suspicious, directly hacked, or receiving stolen funds.

TRM Labs is checking addresses for seven categories of illegal activity, according to a chart shared on GitHub. It commonly flags accounts in four major categories. These categories include stolen funds, funds from a transaction mixer, confirmed addresses, and funds from a known scam. The remaining categories are child sexual exploitation materials, funds from known hacker groups, and funds used to finance terrorism.

Banteg also noted that 30 of the addresses are associated with ENS (Ethereum Name Servicce) names, which are human-readable names used to facilitate sending crypto payments to these wallets.
