Whether you’re a hardcore gamer or someone who just hears about the developments, everyone knows about the GTA series. Although there has been no game from the series for a long time, GTA 3, San Andreas and Vice City games have been remastered recently. The re-blending of these games, the most recent of which is 17 years old, sounds crazy, but the result was a disaster. However, when we look at the sales figures of the released GTA Trilogy remastered version, the opposite seems to be the case.
GTA Trilogy achieved tremendous sales success
We know what you think about the 2021 remastered trilogy. The game had a lot of bugs and was generally sloppy. However, damaging the atmosphere of the original games made this trilogy a disappointment for almost everyone who played it. Although the comments about the game are extremely negative, the money entering Rockstar’s account is not like that. According to the announcement, the trilogy managed to sell more than 10 million copies.
GTA series has sold a total of 370 million copies with all its games. Roughly 160 million of them belong to GTA 5. According to the latest information, GTA Trilogy also contributed to the soup with around 10 million sales. 10 million may seem small when compared to other games in the series. But this isn’t even a stand-alone trilogy, it’s just a remastered. When Mafia: Definitive Edition was released in 2020, the game was liked and sold 2 million copies. Other Mafia games have not achieved 10 million sales alone so far.
We have made many comments about the trilogy that Rockstar Games has brought before us. The game was a huge disappointment and has already scored 49 on Metacritic. The situation is even worse when we look at the ratings of the players. About 6000 people rated the game and it averaged 0.6 out of 10.
Let’s give a more striking example. There are countless people who claim that Red Dead Redemption 2 is the best game in the world, and this game has sold around 38 million copies. While a hugely successful AAA game sells for around 40 million, GTA Trilogy, which is a disappointment and according to some people even a ‘fraud’, can sell a quarter of that.
