Last fall, while the iPhone 14 series had yet to be introduced, there were rumors claiming that the iPhone 15 Pro Max would be called the iPhone 15 Ultra. It was said that the reason for this change was Apple’s desire to differentiate the iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max.
But then the Ultra excitement faded and the biggest iPhone 14 variant was called Pro Max again. According to rumors, Apple would still offer some features like the telephoto zoom camera, which will mark the arrival of periscope cameras that will only be found on the 6.7-inch Pro model. However, the Ultra name change seemed to have been delayed to the iPhone 16 series.
Now, less than a month before Apple’s iPhone 15 event, a new rumor has once again surfaced that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be called the iPhone 15 Ultra.
This claim comes from Andrew O’Hara of Apple Insider. O’Hara says he heard “from multiple sources” that the name iPhone 15 Ultra would come: “Multiple sources have told me that Apple will indeed use the name ‘iPhone 15 Ultra’ for its plus-size pro phone. This was an early rumor that was later withdrawn. Since then, many have referred to this phone as the iPhone 15 Pro Max.”
Whatever the name, the new Ultra or Pro Max model features a refreshed design, titanium frame, periscope camera, camera enhancements, new action button, 3nm A17 Bionic chip, high-transfer USB-C connectivity and a larger battery. It is expected to be available in the US and with a starting price of $1,299.
