Bot accounts, which are the fearful dream of social media, also actively appear in the Russia-Ukraine war. However, in the latest statement shared by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), it was revealed that five “enemy” bot farms, which were engaged in activities to scare citizens, were destroyed.

According to the statement of the federal security unit of Ukraine, the boat farms wanted to cause panic among the citizens of Ukraine and at the same time destabilize the sociopolitical situation in various regions. Five Russian farms that control at least 100,000 accounts have been destroyed.

Stating that they raided the boat farms detected within the borders of Ukraine, SBU stated that they have been spreading fake news and disinformation since February 24. It was learned that five farms working on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine shared with at least 100 thousand accounts.

SBU, which made statements after bot raids on farms that control accounts, did not neglect to blame Russia. Ukrainian agency that claims Russia is conducting “large-scale information sabotage”; stated that the farms are in four different regions (Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Ternopil and Zakarpattia).

“Bots run by Russia were used to spread distorted news and propaganda about the invasion on their social media accounts.”

It was stated that as a result of the raids organized by the SBU officials, more than 100 GSM gateway devices, nearly 10,000 SIM cards, laptop computers and some information processing equipment were seized. In the photos shared by the Ukrainian government, it was also noticed that there were mobile phones, USB drives and weapons. But the SBU did not disclose whether there were any arrests.

Ukraine National News Agency announced that a confirmation bot has been developed to prevent the spread of false information about the war. Thanks to this bot called Perevirka, fake videos, photos and other posts on social media can be confirmed.
