It would not be wrong to say that the Russia-Ukraine war has been the only topic that has been talked about all over the world for the last week. After Russia’s statements on February 24, military units began to enter the territory of Ukraine. This war, in which many people lost their lives, was met with a great reaction from the technology sector, as in every sector, and caused the emergence of sanctions.
We have conveyed to you that companies such as Google, Apple and Meta have begun to impose sanctions against Russia. In addition, similar decisions came from many other companies, such as the giant music platform Spotify and CD Projekt Red, the developer of the Cyberpunk 2077 game. Now, the Deputy President of Ukraine Mykhailo Federov, who has made many statements on the subject in recent days, called on other technology companies and showed that they continue to ask Russia to unplug the internet, in a way.
Call to Samsung from Ukraine
Federov made a call to South Korea-based company Samsung with his post today. Federov appealed to Samsung officials with his share, demanding that access to Samsung Pay and Galaxy Store be blocked in Russia. Inviting Samsung to be a part of history, Federov did not neglect to request that all Samsung services be stopped in the country.
In addition to this, in the previous statements, giant payment companies Visa and Mastercard were also called. Federov wanted both of these companies to exit Russia, like Apple Pay and Google Pay. He also asked game platforms such as Xbox and Playstation to make moves against Russia in a post he shared recently.
Deputy Prime Minister, in other statements he made in the past days, took his wishes one step further and made statements stating that Russia’s access to the internet should be blocked. However, this request was rejected by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Numbers and Names (ICANN) after criticism.
In short, while the war continues unabated, the sanctions, some of which can be described as ‘exaggeration’, continue to come against Russia.
