UK member of parliament Lisa Cameron said she does not invest in cryptocurrencies but advocates regulations.
Lisa Cameron, a member of parliament since 2015, made some important statements at the Consensus 2023 conference held in Texas on April 28. Cameron stated that he started advocating crypto-related policies in the UK government after one of his constituency became a victim of crypto.
Cameron: I Don’t Invest Personally
Lisa Cameron announced that she is an advocate for enacting regulations so that they can make the most of the industry’s potential while protecting consumers.
According to Cameron, the crypto market crash in 2022 has provided the UK with an opportunity to spot potential bad actors in this space. Cameron reiterated Rishi Sunak’s goal of making the UK a global hub for crypto, saying that it’s not just one party MP that is working towards achieving this goal.
Cameron added that he has not personally invested in cryptocurrencies as he thinks it could affect his impartiality in the legislation.
However, underlining that there is a system that allows UK lawmakers to own digital assets, Cameron continued: “There will be very few people who are not involved in this sector in the next ten years.”
The UK government continues to work on the Financial Services and Markets Bill, which proposes the regulation of stablecoins as well as supporting the secure adoption of cryptocurrencies.
