NVIDIA wants to produce new chips focused on artificial intelligence for use in infotainment systems in vehicles, and announced that it has partnered with MediaTek for this purpose. According to the plans, MediaTek will develop the new SoCs using an NVIDIA GPU chip running the NVIDIA DRIVE platform.

According to NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, this move will not only benefit premium car owners. “The combination of MediaTek’s industry-leading system-on-chip (SoC) technology and NVIDIA’s GPU and AI software technologies will provide new user experiences, enhanced security, and new connected services for all vehicle segments, from luxury to entry-level,” says Huang.

The NVIDIA-powered chip will help provide a performance-enhanced Dimensity Auto platform for customers. Dimensity Auto is MediaTek’s in-car solution that brings entertainment and cockpit features to equipped vehicles.

“Our collaborative vision with this partnership is to provide a global one-stop shop for designing the next generation of smart, always-connected vehicles for the automotive industry,” said Rick Tsai, CEO of MediaTek. We will be able to offer a truly unique platform for the defined brokerage.”
