The new Twitter feature unmention is available. Unmentioning is a feature designed to allow users to take control of mentions and leave a conversation. Supported on all platforms and devices.
Leaving unwanted chats gets easier
To remove yourself from a conversation, tap the three dots on the relevant tweet to open the menu. You will see the new “Leave this chat” option. The following options will then appear:
- Remove username: Your username will be removed from the original tweet and all replies.
- Stop future mentions: People cannot mention you again in this chat.
- Stop notifications: You won’t receive any more notifications, but you can still see the chat.
Once you confirm that you want to leave the chat, your username is removed from all tweets in that chat. This means other users won’t be able to view your profile and replies won’t include your username.
Security mode for trolls is coming
Not to mention, it’s one of the newest features Twitter has introduced to help curb abuse on the platform. The company said that the purpose of this feature is to help users distance themselves from people who bother them by mentioning them. The company is also testing a new security mode feature that automatically blocks trolls from appearing in mentions.
Twitter’s new unmention feature will start rolling out to all users on all platforms, including iOS, Mac and web, starting today.
