The founder and CEO of the popular social media platform Twitter, Jack Dorsey, announced that he resigned yesterday and will be replaced by Parag Agrawal, Twitter’s chief technology officer. Agrawal was lynched on the first day of his office for a tweet he sent exactly 11 years ago.
It was also revealed that some time after Parag Agrawal tweeted, he responded to one of the users who had reacted to him to explain that the tweet in question was a quote from the television show The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. However, this statement was not enough to prevent the reaction of conservative Americans.
Parag Agrawal’s tweet
“Why should I differentiate between whites and racists if they are not going to make a distinction between Muslims and extremists?”
The US conservatives, angered by the tweet of the new CEO on October 26, 2010, reacted. The phrase is uttered on The Daily Show at the end of a panel broadcast with host Jon Stewart and comedians Larry Whilmore and Aasif Mandvi. On the show, Mandvi said, “If they’re not going to make a distinction between Muslims and violent extremists, then why take the time to differentiate between decent, cowardly whites and racists?” His words are accompanied by laughter from the audience.
Agrawal’s statements in the past did not prevent users from reacting, many people continued to react to the tweet in anger.
Examples of the responses received:
US Senator Marasha Blackburn: “This is the new CEO of Twitter and the person who will decide what kind of conversation is allowed on Twitter, Parag Agrawal”
“Here is Twitter’s new CEO. Things are going to get worse here, @jack is gone. ”
“So Twitter’s new CEO is a racist. Why am I not surprised?”
