Twitter/X gets authentication based on authentication
App researcher Nima Owji spotted a new tag that appears when you click a user’s blue checkmark: “This account has been authenticated.” While Twitter/X has not yet confirmed that it has launched an identity-based verification method, findings from Twitter’s codes show that the platform has been working on this issue since at least March.
On the other hand, the authentication feature is actually something that has been on the agenda since earlier this year. According to information obtained in previous months, Twitter will not perform the authentication process itself, instead users will be authenticated by a third-party service. As it is known, Twitter uses a third-party financial services company called Blue and Stripe for payment transactions.
