Twitter continues to be subject to serious controversy and backlash since it fell into the hands of Elon Musk in October 2022. But there is also a fact that; nowadays, there is no competitor that can take the throne of Twitter in its field.
According to the newly learned details, this situation may change soon. According to the information conveyed by MoneyControl, Facebook and Instagram’s umbrella company Meta is working on a text-based social media platform that will be a Twitter rival.
So what will this platform be like?
According to the transferred details, the platform will be built on the decentralized social networking protocol ‘ActivityPub’. ActivityPub also hosts Mastodon, which became popular after Twitter’s acquisition by Elon Musk and is seen as a Twitter alternative.
Although it is stated that the platform will be ‘independent’, access will be made through Instagram. Users will sign up to the platform with their Instagram accounts. Although the name of the platform is not yet clear, Meta uses the codename ‘P92’ for now.
Meta confirmed the news!
A few hours after the news broke, a Meta spokesperson told MoneyControl. The spokesperson’s statement was shared as follows:
“We are working on an independent, decentralized social network for sharing text-based developments. We believe there is an opportunity for a separate space where creators and celebrities can share up-to-date information about their interests.”
No further details have been released yet about Meta’s Twitter rival platform. While it is known that the platform is currently under development, it is also unknown when it will be released.
