With the penetration of social media into every aspect of our lives, it has become inevitable for many celebrities to have profile accounts on these platforms. Twitter, which has been used by politicians to inform the public firsthand, especially in recent years, witnessed a very interesting event this time. The fake profile of the famous politician was shown as a verified account by Twitter.
Twitter shelved its approved account project
Twitter, which first offered the approved account option to users in 2016, aimed to identify accounts opened with the same name as well-known figures in the fields of sports, magazines, press and politics. In this sense, users; Official websites could get a blue check badge by forwarding information such as their identity and official email address to Twitter.
About a year later; The verified account option, which was shelved by Twitter in 2017, was reinstated for a limited audience last October.
According to the news of Norway-based technology site NRKbeta, Twitter mistakenly made the fake account of Norwegian Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum the verified account. The account, which had only 18 followers when the situation was noticed, was suspended by the social media platform after a very short time. The Norwegian Ministry of Finance also released an official statement, confirming the misunderstanding.
The Norwegian Ministry of Finance said that Vedum never had any social media accounts and users should not trust such accounts.
Until the profile was shut down, tweets were sent that were completely against the political views of Vedum’s party and insulted the government. It was also admitted that this misunderstanding was caused not by Twitter’s management team, but by the negligence of the Norwegian National Security Agency and the President’s Office.
