Twitter is testing a new “Liked By Author” hashtag that appears when the author of a tweet likes your reply. Screenshots reflecting the claims that the new tag is seen in the Android application, a spokesperson from Twitter also confirmed.

From what we’ve understood so far, when the author of a tweet likes a reply, it’s marked with a badge that is visible to others who both left the reply and viewed it. The tag is being tested around the world, and screenshots are shared showing users in many countries detecting the tag.

The new hashtag is similar to the “Creator liked this” badge that TikTok puts next to it when a user likes a comment on a post.

Twitter’s new hashtag may be offensive to some users, who see it as a distracting or unnecessary addition to an already crowded tweet. On the other hand, some users may find it a nice addition, especially if they want to show that their tweets have been liked by an important user such as celebrities. There may be situations where a tweet receives a large number of replies and the original sender wants to highlight a few without having to respond directly.

The tag is still in testing and it is unknown if Twitter plans to make it officially available to all users.
