Tumblr has activated a second monetization feature that bloggers can benefit from today. The innovation, known as ‘tip jar’ abroad, will actually be similar to the donation system found on Twitch and YouTube.
This feature, which is currently only available for trial use in the USA, is said to be available to Tumblr users all over the world with an upcoming update. Here are the details…
Tumblr will not get commission from the tip feature
Thanks to this new feature brought by Tumblr, when users tip a content creator, they will be able to write their notes in a box. It is also stated that promoters can send up to $100 at a time.
The platform says it will not take any commissions from donations. However, since the Tumblr tip feature can be used via credit or debit cards, the intermediary fee to the banks will be deducted from here. This may vary by country and institution.
Tumblr had actually taken a step before for bloggers to make money. The platform had enabled users to charge a monthly fee for accessing private posts, thanks to a feature called Post+, which it introduced in the past months. The tip jar will also be one of the innovations that supports this.
While some users are concerned about the legality of Tumblr encouraging bloggers to monetize their readers, others say that the beta version of Post+ doesn’t allow creators to block users who subscribe to them and there is a potential problem. It says it’s a security issue.
In fact, a blogger who helped test the Post+ feature, after being targeted with many insults and death threats by users who did not like the innovation of the platform, Tumblr intervened and condemned the attacks.
