It is known that TSMC has sent 1000 R&D personnel to its new factory in Taiwan for the production of 2nm processors. This facility is still under construction but expected to be completed soon. The facility will be a state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing facility. TSMC plans to start mass production of 2 nm processors in 2025.What will the TSMC 2nm processor offer?
TSMC’s 2nm processors are expected to significantly outperform previous 3nm processors in terms of both speed and power consumption. 2nm chips will be 10-15% faster. Also, they will consume 25-30% less power even though they run at the same speed as 3nm chips.
Although TSMC’s move to prepare for 2nm production may seem insignificant at first glance, it is actually a huge event. TSMC produces chips for dozens of technology giants, including Apple and Nvidia. We will see much more powerful phones, computers, video cards and game consoles. The smaller size and less energy consumption of 2nm chips will also solve overheating problems.
