Experts in the industry predict that after TSMC’s 2nm mass production, big players such as Apple and Nvidia will be among the first customers and will consolidate its leadership against competitors such as Samsung and Intel.
TSMC is preparing for 2nm
It plans to set up a small-scale trial production line in Zhuke for TSMC’s first 2nm research and development. The target for this year is to trial production of approximately 1,000 units, followed by risk production in 2024 and mass production in 2025. TSMC’s 2nm technology will benefit from the new GAA transistor architecture, which is expected to significantly improve system performance compared to 3nm technology.
Smaller transistors come with benefits such as higher performance, higher efficiency, more transistors on a single chip, less heat generation and potential cost reductions. These improvements result in faster data processing, improved energy efficiency, increased functionality, better thermal management and cost savings in chip manufacturing. All these items are very important in today’s world of artificial intelligence explosion.
