The world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer, TSMC, which supplies chips to technology giants such as Apple, Nvidia and AMD, announced that it has made great progress in new generation production technologies. Aiming to put the first 3nm process into production at the end of 2022, the company plans to switch to 2nm at the end of 2025.
Performance and efficiency will increase
Answering questions posed by analyst company Goldman Sachs, TSMC CEO CC Wei said about the company’s 2nm manufacturing technology, “We are confident that N2 will continue our technology leadership to support customer growth. And we’re still planning production in 2025,” he said, adding that pre-production will begin in 2024.

The company’s new N2 manufacturing process is expected to be the first TSMC process to use GAA (Omnidirectional gate) transistors instead of FinFETT (Wing-shaped field-effect transistor). However, the company will deliver a huge efficiency and performance gain, similar to Samsung using its own GAA version today
