Taiwanese TSMC, which comes to mind first when chip casting is mentioned, continues to increase its weight in the sector. The company, which has grown its portfolio with the developments it has achieved especially during the pandemic period, still does not see serious pressure.
TSMC is still the clear leader
According to the first quarter reports of the year, TSMC has a 70 percent share in the mobile chip breakdown. The report covers application processor, system-on-chip and cellular modem production. Samsung is the other factor with 30 percent.
The global mobile chip market experienced a decrease of around 5 percent compared to the same period last year. However, revenues increased by 23 percent. The price increases made by companies this year have a positive impact on revenues.
During this period, Samsung managed to achieve a share of around 60 percent in the 4nm process with the production of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. TSMC has a 40 percent share. Of course, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, the balances will change in favor of TSMC.
