According to a new report by Taiwanese trade publication Digitimes, Apple has started working with TSMC to launch M3 processors that will process the 3nm fabrication process in 2023. TSMC will begin commercial production of its 3nm fabrication process chips in the 4th quarter of 2022.

Moving its Macs and Macbooks from Intel chips to its own processors, Apple is preparing to introduce M3 and A17 chips in 2023. These new processors, which will be used in Macs and iPhones, will have enhanced performance features and show better battery performance.

The claims that M3 chips will have up to 40 cores are quite strong. For comparison, to give an example of Apple’s M1 processor, the M1 had 8 cores, while the M1 Pro and M1 Max had 10 cores. In other words, with M3 processors, the number of cores will increase exponentially.

In the meantime, Apple’s agreement with TSMC has pushed other technology giants to different pursuits. Because AMD and Qualcomm also rely on TSMC for many of their products, while Apple’s welding seems to have made things difficult.
