Negotiations begin for the first facility in Europe
Reportedly, TSMC plans to establish its first factory in Europe in Dresden, Germany. However, the chip giant will visit Germany with a team of top executives to discuss government support and local supply chain capacity. After this meeting, the final decision for the new facility is expected to be made.
According to the information in the source, TSMC’s Dresden facility will focus on the production of 22 nanometer and 28 nanometer chips using more than 2,000 materials and more than 50 types of equipment, such as chemicals and industrial gases. Thus, while the new facility is expected to meet the increasing chip demand of the European automobile industry, TSMC is reported to have started negotiations with suppliers for the necessary equipment.
In its recent statements, TSMC has committed to invest at least $380 billion over the next decade to build new factories in Taiwan, South Korea, the USA, Japan, Germany, Ireland and Israel. The first construction work for the German plant, which is included in this investment plan, is expected to start in 2024.
