iPhone 15 will cost more
According to the information received, TSMC’s 3nm process costs around $20000 per plate. In the 5nm process, it was $16000. In other words, a cost increase of around 25-30 percent has been achieved. However, the cost to the customer is higher.
It was discussed that Apple paid twice as much for the A16 Bionic chipset produced in the 4nm process compared to the 5nm A15 Bionic chipset. The fact that it makes up 25 percent of TSMC’s capacity forces Apple to open its mouth. There is probably a similar pay rise for the 3nm Apple A17 Bionic chipset, as there are claims of $150.
It is estimated that the company will continue the current chip policy for the iPhone 15. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models will feature the first generation 3nm process and will appeal to a slightly more mainstream audience. The iPhone 15 Pro series, on the other hand, will make the price increase acceptable with the second generation 3nm as well as more premium features.
On the other hand, giants such as Qualcomm and MediaTek, which will prefer the 3nm process, also need to pay more. This means that we will see a price increase in the smartphone market, especially on the premium side.
