According to tFormers’ report, when you pick up a Canon EOS R5 in the near future, you may discover that it is actually a Transformer. That dream becomes a reality next year thanks to a collaboration between Takara Tomy (the Japanese company behind Transformers toys) and Canon (the Japanese company behind Canon cameras, as you can imagine).
This collaboration has resulted in a pair of Transformers figures that can be folded into Canon mirrorless cameras that look stunningly lifelike. These cameras look so realistic that at first glance they can be mistaken for working cameras. But as might be expected from their price of ¥19,800 (about $147), they are actually non-functional copies that are only 80 percent of their actual size. However, considering that Takara Tomy has produced working MP3 player Transformer toys before, we can say that the idea of a working camera is not that crazy.
Perhaps one of the most eye-catching details is the lens hood on both figures, which transform into shields for Transformers to use. Another detail is the miniature cameras that both figures seem to be holding in some promotional footage. One figure is based on Optimus Prime, while the other is based on the Decepticon Refraktor.
Both Transformers figures are scheduled to launch in Japan on February 25 next year, and TFW2005 is reporting that pre-orders are open from now until September 28. It is unclear whether they will be sold globally.
