In a new study conducted in England, the ‘world’s most boring’ characteristics were determined in the light of the data obtained and analyzed from the participants. As a result of this research, the researchers created a profile of the world’s most boring person.
Introducing the most boring person in the world
Researchers from the University of Essex, the University of Limerick, and the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, in a peer-reviewed study of the science of boredom revealed jobs, traits and hobbies that were typically considered ‘boring’.
Examining more than 500 people in five experiments, the researchers found that the most mundane jobs were seen as data analysis, accounting, cleaning, and banking. However, the article noted that watching television, bird watching and smoking are among the most boring hobbies, and it was stated that boring people prefer to live in small cities and towns rather than larger settlements.
However, as a result of the research, the profile of the most boring person in the world was created. According to this joint study carried out by academics from three universities, it was determined that the most boring person in the world is a religious data entry worker who likes to watch television and lives in a town.
People who are described as ‘boring’ are excluded from society due to prejudices
from the Department of Psychology. The study, led by Wijnand Van Tilburg, revealed that people who are considered stereotypically boring are often disliked because of prejudice, and therefore people stay away from such people.
Stating that it is ironically interesting to examine boredom, Tilburg said in a statement regarding the research, “This article shows how persuasive perceptions of boredom are and what impact it can have on people. Perceptions can change, but people may not take the time to talk to people with ‘boring’ jobs and hobbies and instead choose to avoid them. People don’t get a chance to prove them wrong and break these negative stereotypes. People choosing to avoid these people can lead to social exclusion and increase loneliness, which has a truly negative impact on their lives.”
The study also shows that being perceived as boring likely results in low competence and low interpersonal intimacy. Those perceived may therefore be at greater risk of harm, addiction and mental health problems, but although they may be perceived as ‘boring’ this does not change the fact that society needs people to fulfill roles such as accounting and banking
