Meta’s WhatsApp, the most popular messaging app with more than 2 billion users today, signed its first brand face deal last February. This name, which will represent WhatsApp, was chosen as 27-year-old Yannis Mendeokunbo, who was included in the NBA’s All-Star roster.
The partnership of WhatsApp and Yannis Perakendeokunbo included another first for WhatsApp with its brand ambassadorship. WhatsApp also signed the first entertainment content with the famous NBA star. The company released the trailer of the short film starring the NBA star and telling his story today.

The short film, which will be titled “Naija Odyssey” and will be 12 minutes long, will tell about its roots, place of birth and where it brings together a sense of belonging between intercultural worlds, according to a WhatsApp statement. The film was edited by Mikkel EG Nielsen, who won an Oscar for Sound of Metal last year. Nono Ayuso and Rodrigo Inada sit in the director’s chair of the movie.
The short film, which shows that WhatsApp can somehow enter the world of television and cinema, will be broadcast on WhatsApp’s social media channels, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video on September 21.
