Tradesmen, who are among those who suffer from this problem and located in Karşıyaka district of İzmir, also made statements regarding their situation.

‘We can’t raise money to avoid losing customers’

According to the news shared by Evrensel, the shopkeepers said that they could not raise due to the fear of missing the customer; therefore, they are trying to pay their rising expenses by using the pensions of their family members. In addition, it was emphasized by the shopkeepers of Karşıyaka that unpaid home loans, foreclosures and impoverishment would lead to the closure of businesses.

In the statements made by the tradesmen, the unresponsiveness of the people was also mentioned. Stating that the reactions to the increasing prices are not reflected on the streets as before, the employees underlined that it is necessary to act together to solve this problem. In a statement he made, a cafe operator stated that the buttermilk, which was 8 liras per box in the summer months, has now increased to 30 liras, that his rent has increased, but that he did not raise the price in order not to lose his customer, and he had to sell at a loss.

In addition, the cafe operator woman, who stated that most of the shopkeepers were in a similar situation, said that they paid their rent with her husband’s pension, and that the citizens no longer bought anything; That’s why people need to react now, he added.
