Japan-based automotive company Toyota is establishing a new factory in the USA. The facility will produce batteries for 1.2 million vehicles annually. According to the statement, Toyota’s factory near Greensboro, North Carolina, will employ at least 1,750 people.

In October, the company announced that it would set up a new factory in the US to manufacture batteries for hybrid and all-electric vehicles. The automaker has announced that it will begin producing batteries in 2025 and will gradually expand the program through 2031.

Toyota shared the location of the $1.29 billion facility

The automaker announced a new battery manufacturing plant worth $1.29 billion by making a statement. Accordingly, the factory will be built on the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite land located in Randolph County in central North Carolina, USA.

Toyota announced that the plant will be completed in 2025. It will also consist of four production lines, each capable of producing batteries for 200,000 vehicles per year. They plan to eventually expand the facility to produce enough power cells to support 1.2 million cars per year, TechXplore reports.

In fact, this factory is part of Toyota’s $3.4 billion investment to expand its battery manufacturing capacity in the US. The automaker also explained the reason for choosing this region. The most striking reason is the easy access to renewable energy. The company stated that it will use 100 percent clean energy for battery production.

Toyota plans to launch 70 different electric models by 2025, 15 of which are battery electric vehicles. It also aims to sell 2 million zero-emission hydrogen and battery electric vehicles annually worldwide by 2030. Meanwhile, the company has yet to reveal where it will manufacture all-electric vehicles for sale in the US.

It should also be noted that Toyota will establish a new company with its parts-manufacturing subsidiary, Tsusho, to operate the new facility. This company will help Toyota expand its US supply chain and increase its knowledge of lithium-ion automobile batteries. However, the new factory near Greensboro is considered close to many of Toyota’s existing facilities in Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama and Texas.

Toyota noted that at least partially electric vehicles currently make up about a quarter of its U.S. sales. He says he plans to increase it to about 70 percent by 2030.
