After the end of January, the expected report from the Automotive Distributors Association (ODD) came. Sharing its sales report for January with the public, the association revealed that the contraction in the market continues. According to the announced data, automobile sales made in the last month decreased by 17.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and were recorded as 29 thousand 20 units. Light commercial vehicle sales, on the other hand, increased by 8.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and became 9,111. Thus, the total sales were 38,131 in January 2022. This number is 12.8 percent lower than January 2021.
As you can imagine, citizens turned to cars in the low tax bracket in January 2022. In this context; 91.7% of the market consisted of vehicles in the A, B and C segments with low tax rates. The most preferred segment in this field was C. 47.8 percent of the vehicles sold in January were C segment cars and 42.8 percent were B segment cars.
The end of diesel cars is coming
January 2022 data announced by ODD shows that gasoline vehicles dominate the market by far. Because 21,565 of the cars sold in January, that is, 74.3 percent, consisted of gasoline vehicles. 18.5 percent of the cars sold in January were diesel, 5.7 percent hybrid and 1.1 percent autogas. The number of electric motor cars sold during the month was recorded as 134.
Only 1 of every 4 cars sold is manual transmission.
Interest in manual transmission cars had fallen in 2021. This situation seems to continue in 2022 as well. Because when we look at the announced data, we see that only one out of every four cars sold has a manual transmission. Finally, let us state that the body type that attracted great attention in January was the SUV. When we look at the data, we see that SUV vehicles with a market share of 42.3 percent are followed by sedans with a share of 37.8 percent and hatchbacks with a share of 18.7 percent.
