Journalist Emre Özpeynirci, who compiles the data he received from the Automotive Distributors Association, explained what happened in the automotive industry in September. Making statements on Twitter, Özpeynirci stated that the SUV segment surpassed the sedan for the second time this year, that diesel vehicle sales were almost at a standstill and that there were changes in the list of best-selling vehicles in September. If you wish, let’s take a look at what happened in the automotive industry.

According to Özpeynirci’s data, automotive sales declined in September, mainly due to supply problems. In fact, this decline reached the level of 40 percent. While the sales share of diesel engine vehicles in September decreased to 15 percent, this rate was recorded as 20 percent for the period between January and September. In other words, only 1 of every 5 vehicles sold during 2021 was diesel. At this point, the main detail that draws attention is hybrid and electric motor cars. 10 percent of the vehicles sold in September had an all-electric or hybrid system.

Fiat Egea was the best-selling vehicle in September as well

According to the compilation made from ODD’s data, the best-selling model in September was Fiat Egea with 3,646 units. This vehicle was followed by Dacia Duster with 2,301 sales, Renault Megane with 2,268 sales, Fiat Egea Cross with 2,073 sales, and Toyota Corolla with 1,931 sales. Next in the list are Honda Civic, Hyundai i20, Renault Clio, Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Polo. Özpeynirci underlined that in September, Duster rose to the 2nd rank, while Egea Cross rose to the 4th rank, while Renault Clio fell to the 8th rank.

In September, sales rates of SUV vehicles reached 40 percent. Thus, the industry once again experienced the leadership of the SUV after July.
