ISOCELL HP2, which has been on the agenda with rumors for a long time, has finally been introduced. The camera sensor, introduced with the slogan “The ultimate high-resolution experience on flagship smartphones”, will be used in the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Capable of recording in 1/1.3 inch optical format, ISOCELL HP2 has 200 million 0.6 micrometer pixels. Samsung announced that they have adapted the sensor size commonly used in 108 Megapixel cameras to 200 Megapixels.

ISOCELL HP2 can create 12.5 MP, 50 MP and 200 Megapixel resolution images using various pixel grouping options. Samsung also states that artificial intelligence technology is used to develop 200 Megapixel images.

In a statement published on the company’s website about the new camera sensor, “In low-light environments, the sensor transforms into either a 1.2μm 50 Megapixel or 2.4μm 12.5 Megapixel image sensor by connecting four to 16 neighboring pixels. For fuller 8K video at around 33 Megapixels, the HP2 switches to 1.2μm 50 Megapixel mode to minimize clipping and capture more of the scene.” statements are included.

The company underlined that they use a new Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) technology to reduce faded images in very bright environments. Samsung claims the technology improves color reproduction and eliminates overexposure in bright light.
