An award from Time magazine, which chose Elon Musk as the Person of the Year, also came to Samsung. Samsung’s latest clamshell foldable smartphone, Galaxy Z Flip 3, found itself in Time magazine’s 2021 Best Inventions list under the Consumer Electronics category. The publication highlighted the vibrant 6.7-inch OLED 120 Hz display of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the 1.98-inch cover screen used to display notifications. He also praised Samsung for lowering the price of foldable smartphones below the psychological limit of $1,000.
“The $999 price tag makes it (the Galaxy Z Flip 3) the first mainstream phone with a foldable display that costs under $1,000 and puts it directly in competition with high-end iPhone models,” Time says.
Galaxy Z Flip 3 is 2021’s most affordable foldable smartphone. It has a Snapdragon 888 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage and an IPX8 rating for dust and water resistance. The device runs the latest version of Android and has several optimizations for the foldable form factor. It has a 10MP selfie camera and a 12MP + 12MP dual camera. It also has stereo speakers, wireless charging and fingerprint reader features.
The South Korean firm is now three generations ahead of most competing smartphone OEMs in the foldable smartphone segment. However, we also know that in 2022 new models will come from Huawei, OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi.
