TikTok has announced that it has made a number of changes to its community guidelines to protect the health and safety of users. These changes include preventing the spread of dangerous demonstrations (challange). TikTok’s approach to such videos is now detailed in a separate section.
TikTok also explicitly prohibits misnaming, misogyny and misogyny, with updates to its community guidelines. In addition, it also bans content that promotes or promotes the so-called conversion therapy practice made to try to “transform” LGBTQ people. The updated community guidelines also expand TikTok’s ban on content promoting eating disorders.
TikTok and other social media platforms have faced criticism for years for containing harmful content and promoting anxiety and depression, especially among teenagers and younger audiences. Last year, TikTok, YouTube and Snap came under scrutiny during a Senate hearing focused on keeping kids safe. In December, TikTok also announced that it was making changes to the way it recommends videos in the app to make sure it doesn’t unintentionally reinforce negative experiences.
