Now, there has been an important development regarding the senior officials of the China-based platform, which has been criticized for data management. According to the statements, Roland Cloutier, who was hired as TikTok’s security chief two and a half years ago, has decided to leave his job. It was stated that this resignation is part of the restructuring in the way the company manages data.

As we shared with you, it was claimed in the past weeks that TikTok improperly accessed the data of users in the USA, and even this data could be used by the Chinese government. After that, it was reported that the authorities in the USA took action on the issue. TikTok, which operates under the Chinese company ByteDance, announced that the allegations did not reflect the truth.

Now, it has been seen that the company has made a move on the management of data belonging to US users, and Roland Cloutier’s resignation has been announced. TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and ByteDance Vice President Dingkun Hong stated that they are working to minimize concerns about the security of user data in the US, while adding that a new department for data management will be created.

According to both executives, establishing a dedicated security team on the issue changed the scope of the role of global chief security officer, Cloutier. For this reason, Roland Cloutier has decided to leave his post as of September 2. It was also stated that Cloutier will assume the role of strategic consultant in the company and will continue to be a senior manager. It was stated that former security chief Kim Albarella will temporarily replace Cloutier.

Finally, TikTok CEO stated that within the scope of renewed security plans, China-based employees’ access to the data of users in the USA will be ‘limited’, the data will not contain private information, and this will be done in accordance with the protocols determined with the US government. It was also included in the CEO’s statements that the data was never shared with the Chinese Communist Party.
