TikTok is launching its new feature that it has been testing since December of last year. The platform increases the video limit from 60 seconds to 180 seconds for all its users.
The popular social media application TikTok is implementing the innovation that will allow all its users to post videos of up to three minutes. With its new feature, the platform aims to give creators more flexibility when shooting more videos.
Aims to attract the TikTok community
Drew Kirchhoff, product manager of the company, made the following statements in his statement:
“Creative expression brings people together. This is how we connect with our communities. This is how we educate, inform and inspire each other. And that’s why we’ve focused on providing our community with a set of tools to help them unleash their creativity. Longer videos will now be among the tools people can use to captivate the community with their creative expression. ”
Besides the explanations about the upcoming innovation, the platform did not say how much longer videos and clips could affect the recommendation algorithm. However, it may be necessary to consider possible parallels with YouTube. Because as YouTube grew, it directed its algorithm towards keeping viewers in. For this reason, almost every video on the platform is over 10 minutes long.
On the other hand, TikTok is not expected to fully adopt the same approach. However, considering that longer videos mean more usage, it is possible to predict that viral clips will be broadcast longer.
