TikTok was the last company to take a step against social media addiction. The new feature added to the Chinese short video application will reveal how much users use the application. In addition, if the application is used uninterruptedly, screen breaks will be offered that will lead to a break.
TikTok will take a break with new screen time controls
TikTok continues to expand its new service, which it calls ‘digital wellbeing’. The social media platform has announced a new screen time and health guide feature to improve digital well-being. With these two innovations, the internet addiction of young users on TikTok will be combated.
The screen time panel, also available in apps like Instagram and Facebook, will show you how much time users spend on TikTok on a daily and weekly basis. It will analyze the average screen time of the user and allow to set daily usage limit.
The new in-app dashboard will also show you when you visit the app the most and how often you open it. In addition to these security features, an interesting innovation called ‘screen break’ will be presented.
Screen break will prevent especially young users from using TikTok for a long time with breaks. It should also be reminded that the application previously showed the screen time that expired after the daily usage limit.
TikTok’s impact on young people is undeniable. Stating that it is aware of this effect, the platform stated that thanks to its new control panel, young people between the ages of 13 and 17 will take screen breaks.
“If a user aged 13 to 17 uses the app for more than 100 minutes a day, they will see our screen time limit tool the next time they open TikTok.”
