TikTok, which is a source of income for many, has made a decision that eliminates some of the income that can be obtained through third-party ads. With the sudden unannounced change, creators can’t add an App Store link to their profile bio.

The change to TikTok was discovered by David Tesler, co-founder of Sendit, who plans to bring people together with augmented reality games. Users started encountering the “Action could not be completed” error when they clicked on the App Store link that a person added to their profile.

The scene with TikTok’s App Store ban:

There doesn’t seem to be a viable way to circumvent the ban either:

Services such as LinkTree, which content producers frequently use, cannot be used to embed App Store links. The error message also appears on connections accessed from these services.

What does this change mean?

TikTok content producers were able to highlight applications through agreements with third-party brands, adding download links to their profiles, and earning a certain level of income per download. Moreover, the account did not need to be a business account for this.

With the new change, App Store links can now only be used by work accounts. This means that business accounts will now feature their own apps and have more limited partnerships with content producers.
