Thousands of content is added to TikTok, one of today’s most popular applications. Of course, there may be some inappropriate content among so many videos. The platform is also trying to block these contents. However, the incident experienced by a user from the United Kingdom showed that TikTok may have problems marking content as ‘inappropriate’.
TikTok has closed the account of a 16-year-old young user from the UK named Eva just because of her looks. According to the BBC, the platform has stigmatized the young girl’s content as ‘offensive content’.
Eva’s account, who wanted to inspire other people with her story, was closed for sharing her acne
According to the information received, TikTok described 16-year-old Eva’s acne as ‘offensive content’ and therefore closed her account. In her statements, the young girl stated that she opened the account to encourage and inform other people, and that acne ‘does not show who we are’. However, the application deleted the account without any warning on the grounds that it did not comply with the rules.
Eva, who struggled with acne for more than two years, also said, “Having flaws outside does not mean you are not beautiful.” Stating that she had acne from her cheeks to her chin at that time, the young girl stated that she did not even want to leave the house because of this. The treatments she received helped Eva’s face improve. This enabled him to tell his story with and help other people who were going through similar processes.
Stating that the incident did not discourage her, Eva stated that she sent an e-mail to the company and added that she opened another account right after her account was deleted. The young man, who survived his struggle with acne, holds the first place in his age group in the beauty contest held in the region and is preparing to compete in the national finals in March.
