As it is known, the social media giant TikTok has become a controversial application in many countries, especially recently. If we recall, the European Union (EU) Commission recently announced that the use of TikTok application on state-owned corporate devices will be prohibited. Now, a similar decision has come from the New Zealand government.

TikTok banned in another country

It should be noted that the ban decision from New Zealand is not surprising. As a matter of fact, in recent months, TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has been receiving harsh criticism due to security concerns. However, many countries began to follow the ban decision from the USA and the EU Commission.

Reportedly, TikTok will be banned on devices that have access to New Zealand’s parliamentary network, unlike other countries. However, officials announced that devices connected to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will also be included in this restriction. The restriction in New Zealand is expected to come into effect by the end of March.

In a statement on the subject, New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins said that “ministries and institutions comply with IT and cybersecurity policies, but no ban decision will be made outside the public sector.” It is a matter of curiosity how TikTok will take a step in the future. Because the US government continues to pressure ByteDance to sell TikTok due to national security concerns.
