TikTok, which has become the application that decides the direction of social media today, has started testing a new Snapchat-like feature today. TikTok’s new feature is the ‘Nearby’ feature, which will allow you to see the posts shared by users near you. The company also shared a statement about the tests.
In a statement to Tech Crunch, a TikTok spokesperson shared that the Nearby feature, which will have a new streaming page for users, is currently only being tested with selected users in Southeast Asia. So how does the new feature work? Let’s look at the details.
The third tab comes to the home page:
TikTok’s ‘Nearby’ feature will appear as a separate feed page in the app. Users will now have a third tab next to the ‘Following’ and ‘For You’ tabs where they can see posts from people they follow. Of course, with the new feature to see posts near you, creators will also need to put some tags.
TikTok is also testing a feature that will allow creators to add location tags to posts to enable the ‘Nearby’ feature. This feature is slowly being made available to all creators, according to a TikTok spokesperson. The date when the feature will be available to all users in the near future is not yet clear.
