Here are some of the negative situations we mentioned, which appear in the content of these trends. According to the new news, the giant platform was sued due to an incident that took place last year.

It was claimed that a stream on TikTok caused the death of a 10-year-old girl

was sued for a 10-year-old boy who allegedly died while doing it. It was stated that the platform was accused of ‘negligence’. According to the lawsuit, a boy named Nylah Anderson in the USA was found unconscious in his bedroom at his home on December 7. The 10-year-old girl died five days later, despite being hospitalized.

Nylah’s mother, Tawainna Anderson, stated that the reason for this was a challenge her daughter saw on TikTok. According to the mother’s statements, Nylah fainted while trying the ‘blackout challenge’, which involves people holding their breath until they pass out, and then regaining consciousness. In the lawsuit, it was stated that this trend was brought before the child because of TikTok’s ‘For You’ algorithm, and the giant company was accused.

Tawainna stated in his statements that he held the company responsible for the incident and that he wanted to prevent this dangerous situation from happening to other families by ensuring that this dangerous situation came to an end. TikTok, on the other hand, described the ‘blackout challenge’ as ‘disturbing’ in its statement, and stated that this trend was never a TikTok trend, but dates back much earlier. While the giant company expressed its condolences for the tragic loss, he added that such content was removed from the platform when it was found.

This is not the first reported death due to the ‘blackout challenge’. Previously, the death of a 12-year-old boy from the USA was associated with this trend. In addition, Italy banned TikTok for users who did not perform age verification for a temporary period last year due to a girl who allegedly died while trying the blackout challenge.
