The new Thunderbolt is coming
As it is known, USB4 technology was based on Thunderbolt 3 technology and allowed 40Gbps data transfers. Intel is now deepening its collaboration and the next generation Thunderbolt technology is based on the USB4 2.0 version.
Reaching 80Gbps bandwidth, the new generation also offers 120Gbps upload in one direction and 40Gbps download in the other direction, thanks to a special mode. Along with DisplayPort 2.1 support, it also doubles PCIe data transfer. Compatibility with previous formats and support for passive cables are among other key features.
Differently, it is stated that the features that will be offered optionally in the USB4 2.0 version will be mandatory in the new Thunderbolt generation. Thus, systems with Intel processors will be in an advantageous position. Intel will share the details and final name of the new Thunderbolt generation next year.
