Threads, Meta’s rival platform to X, formerly Twitter, introduced a new feature: a Reposts tab that separates users’ original posts from reposts. All previously reposted content will remain intact but will now be shown in another tab.
This can be a problem for repost-oriented accounts.
Instagram boss Adam Mosseri shared the news on his Threads account and announced that users will now have access to a dedicated Reposts tab on their profile. This update aims to simplify the process of finding one’s original posts by separating them from reposts that were previously combined into a single thread on the profile, similar to Twitter’s approach.
However, this change creates an imbalance in Threads profiles, causing problems for people who primarily curate rather than create content. Some users suggest adding a toggle filter that offers an alternative to a completely separate stream for reposts.
For those who prefer to express themselves with reposts rather than original content, this update is not ideal. Reposts play an important role in shaping the character of a profile but now the main tab for repost profiles looks almost empty.
To solve this problem, many users can use the reblog tab as a workaround to add saved topics that they want to revisit later. This new separate tab can be seen as the closest option available, as Threads currently lacks a saves feature.
However, the repost tab isn’t a perfect substitute for the saved feature either. In addition, Mosseri announced that Threads will now show reposts in the Following feed, and this change is due to user feedback.
This change brings the platform closer to the experience offered by Twitter, where re-shared content is visible to others not only on the user’s profile, but also in the Following feed.
