Google is expanding the reach of the locked folder tool in the Google Photos app, so it will soon be available for iOS and the web. This means you can seamlessly access your secure files even if you decide to switch from an Android device to an iPhone.

Google Photos’ locked folder feature is coming to iOS

It is said that there is no difference between the new web and iOS versions and the already existing Android version. All three types of users can store their contents in locked folder and then back them up so that they can be accessed from multiple devices. According to Google’s official statement, you will entrust your files to “one of the world’s most advanced security infrastructures”.

The locked folder was exclusive to Google Photos on Android when it was first introduced. It provided users with a “password-protected area” for images or videos so they would not be seen in their “photo gallery or other apps”.

The problem, as we just covered, was that the locked folders feature was not available outside of Android smartphones. So if an iPhone owner wanted to hide particularly sensitive media, they should be in luck. These images could have landed in other connected apps where they were displayed in full view. However, with this update, iPhone users also get rid of this problem.

The company is also simplifying the settings page in Google Photos to make it easier to find and adjust privacy controls. Everything in the menu will no longer be displayed in a messy way on a single screen. Instead, separate tabs will be split into larger sections for a cleaner look.

The update patch can arrive on your iPhone at any time. Google states that the new layout of the settings page is now available in Google Photos for Android and iOS. Also, Locked Folder support is starting to roll out to iOS users today. It is still unknown when the feature will come to the web version. However, it is possible to say that this will happen in the near future.
