According to data from Sensor Tower, Ukrainians fleeing the war are turning to translation apps and language learning apps to help them settle in their countries of refuge. Unlike the United States, which is quite homogeneous when it comes to language, many different languages are spoken on the European continent and translation applications in many different languages are very helpful at this stage.
It is reported that the use of translation applications increased by 71% in one month. The leading applications in this field are Google Translate and language learning application Duolingo.
Sensor Tower’s Stephanie Chan says language apps can provide a clue as to where refugees are planning to go. Versions for certain languages of Duolingo, which is one of the most downloaded, are being downloaded more. The top three of the 10 most installed apps are focused on learning Polish, which is not surprising. The other three teach English and one teaches German.
