The official Instagram account of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), the NFT coin project, has been hacked and a malicious link has been published this afternoon that lures followers to post their NFTs. The scammers got away with at least $2.7 million worth of shots.

NFT coin project’s Instagram account hacked and millions gone

Another member of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), lost his high-value NFTs in an attack. Today, a malicious actor hacked the Instagram account of the blue-chip NFT coin project and posted a malicious link draining NFTs from Ethereum wallets. The Bored Ape Yacht Club warned of the attack on its social media channels shortly after the attack took place.

Link, land for the Otherside project of the sought-after collection set to launch this week tagged as a landing page for printing parts of it. But when the victims clicked on the link and linked their wallets, they inadvertently agreed to send their NFT to the hacker.

Etherscan data shows that the attacker stole 91 NFTs, including four Bored Apes, which are over $420,000 each at current prices. They stole 10 more NFTs, a Deadfellaz NFT and two CloneX NFTs from the Mutant Ape Kennel Club and Bored Ape Kennel Club collections affiliated with Bored Ape. Based on current floor prices, experts calculate the cost of the attack to be at least 960 Ethereums, or about $2.7 million.

This attack is not the first

Today’s hack is the latest in a series of attacks targeting BAYC community members. A similar attack occurred earlier this month, when a malicious actor hacked the project’s Discord server, as reported by Kriptokoin.com. Phishing attackers have specifically targeted Bored Ape owners in the past due to the high value of NFTs. In February, a phishing attacker pretending to be OpenSea stole over $3 million in NFT coins, mostly from BAYC collections.

The entry price for BAYC membership is currently at an all-time high until the project’s highly anticipated Otherside launch. As prices continue to rise, opportunists are increasingly finding ways to profit at the expense of the Bored Ape community.
