One of our biggest iPhone concerns is screen breakage. That’s why we still use iPhone screen protectors and cases. However, it seems that in the coming period, smartphone repairers will be able to solve some screen problems without removing the screen or even turning it off. This may be possible thanks to laser technology, which is being used in the production of OLED panels for mobile devices.
The iPhone screen is quite durable as it is, but accidents can happen. Nobody wants to use a phone with a broken or faulty screen. It’s not just about the screen repair cost. At the same time, replacing the screen is a laborious task. That means backing up the phone and deleting the data before handing it over.
The laser-based OLED screen machine you will see in the video at the end of the article can come in handy at this point. It can correct lines appearing on an OLED display, which is a very specific display issue that affects OLED devices. It’s also an issue that requires a complete replacement of the screen.
The laser machine is able to eliminate lines by fixing invisible traces inside the OLED panel and restoring the flow of electricity. It appears to be based on the laser machines that display manufacturers use to produce Apple’s OLED panels. The machine is able to perform the repair without removing the screen and turning off the screen.
The process seems pretty quick and can make screen repair jobs cheaper significantly. Most people may not have to buy a new screen.
Laser-based OLED repair isn’t perfect, of course. The OLED panel does not work if the glass covering it is broken. Also, the screen should not have any water damage. However, we routinely see people complaining about lines appearing on their OLED screens. The repair process in the video below is for this…
The video explains that one of these machines will cost around $12,000. This is a big investment for any garage, but it’s an investment that can pay for itself. However, it is unclear whether Apple will use similar technology in its stores to repair iPhone OLED panels. Or whether Apple’s authorized partners will support such repairs… Still, this innovation is exciting.
