You’ve probably seen that on the current Google searches page, there are now only sitelinks with ads in the first few lines. It seems that we will not be able to get rid of ads again when new artificial intelligence-supported Google searches enter our lives. In fact, ads can be even more irritating in the company’s new AI-powered Search Generative Experience (SGE), as seen in a new video in a blog post.

Artificial intelligence but Google is Google again

The software giant shared how Google Search, supported by artificial intelligence, would look at the I/O event it organized. It was noted that there were no advertisements in the demos shown. However, this does not mean that the ads will go from Google, of course. And on the contrary, these seem to become even more annoying. For example, in the GIF below, you see a mobile search for “outdoor activities to do in Maui.”

This search has regular sponsored links above the brand new SGE experience. These ads push SGE, Google’s brilliant artificial intelligence product, almost off the page that could change the way we search. There are also plenty of sponsored links later in the GIF, and they’re all at the top of the screen. Searched and requested content is almost off the screen.

Admittedly, this video is featured in a Google blog post promoting its ad products, so the heavy amount of advertising might be a case where the company is emphasizing what’s possible and what it might look like rather than what you’ll actually see. “In the coming months, we’ll be experimenting with Search and Shopping ads that integrate directly into AI-powered snapshot and conversation mode,” said Jerry Dischler, Google’s vice president and general manager of ads, in a blog post. Dischler also stated that the company will be experimenting with “new SGE-specific formats that use generative artificial intelligence” to create ads.
