Apple has brought many popular Android features to iOS in recent years, but it is worth noting that one feature will remain exclusive to Android. As emphasized many times by Apple CEO Tim Cook, iOS user security will not be compromised by sideloading (sideloading or APK loading).

Apple draws attention to the danger of sideloading Android

The Digital Markets Act (DMA) and the Digital Services Act (DSA), recently passed by the European Parliament, brought up the issue of sideloading again. Saying that installing applications from third-party sources would be dangerous, Apple CEO Tim Cook does not want their devices to be used outside of his control.

Apple officials stated that 99 percent of their malware that endangers Android users is not on iOS. The US Senate Judiciary Committee, on the other hand, does not agree with Apple’s thoughts. In the last session, he said he found the company’s statements “to be baseless, disingenuous and dishonest”.

Apple believes Android’s biggest problem with malware is sideloading. In the example submitted by the company to the committee, the application, which appears to be a two-factor authenticator, was discussed.

“The Android app, which recently claimed to be a two-factor authenticator, presented malware designed to steal sensitive financial data from the user,” he said in a statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Apple also drew attention to social engineering attacks targeting government officials. This danger, which tries to access account information through fake applications, cannot pass the security barrier of the App Store.
